Bishop Andriy Celebrates Divine Liturgies at St. Nicholas Church in Minersville Marking the 80th Anniversary of the Parish Choir Club; Visits with Students in Parish School

MINERSVILLE — Thursday, November 8, 2018, the Feast of St. Michael, was the first of two days to mark the 80th anniversary of the St. Nicholas Choir Club in Minersville that included the Divine Liturgy celebrated by the Most Rev. Andriy Rabiy.

The apostolic administrator of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, Rabiy celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the evening in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Minersville, assisted by the Rev. Paul J. Makar, pastor. In the morning, Rabiy celebrated the Divine Liturgy with the students and faculty of St. Nicholas School, the parish’s parochial school.

This was Rabiy’s first visit to the school and also celebrating Divine Liturgies in the church.

In the beginning of his homily, Bishop  Rabiy listed three things he enjoys: singing, poetry and musical instruments.

“There is something amazing that happens during singing,” Rabiy said. “The first two ranks of angels that we know have certain duties. The cherubim are there to exalt and praise God, and the seraphim are there to worship God. When you look at icons in this church or another, you see angels holding harps while praying and singing at the same time.”

The bishop spoke of how special the human voice is when singing.

“There is nothing better than a voice singing in praise of God,” Rabiy said. “The human voice is almost a perfect kind of instrument for giving praise to the Lord.”

Rabiy said St. Nicholas Church is so blessed with having a choir with such longevity.

After the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Andriy Rabiy and Fr. Paul  Makar went to the school to visit the students in their classrooms.
