Eugene A. Luciw, JD, Receives the Alexander B. Chernyk Medal

On Saturday, November 6, the members and friends of the Ukrainian Federation of America gathered at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the restoration of the Independence of Ukraine as well as the 30th Anniversary of the Federation. During the program, Eugene A. Luciw was awarded the Alexander B. Chernyk Medal for his dedicated service to the Ukrainian community, particularly the youth in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The program started with the greetings of Dr. Zenia Chernyk, the President of the Federation, and Metropolitan Borys Gudziak. Metropolitan Borys in his greetings recognized the tremendous work done by the Federation as well as by its founder, who also founded Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center that serves as home to dozens of Ukrainian institutions in Jenkintown, PA. The Ukrainian Federation of America as well as the honoree of this event were greeted by the leaders and representatives of various Ukrainian and US institutions, such as the Embassy of Ukraine, the city of Philadelphia, the U.S. House of Representatives. Dr Jonathan Peri, the President of Manor College, was a keynote speaker. After his presentation, Eugene A. Luciw was presented the medal of Alexander B. Chernyk. In his remarks, he shared the memories about the founder of the Federation and their joint work together.

Eugene A. Luciw, JD, is a lawyer by profession and is an active member of the Ukrainian community. He is one of the founding members of the Ukrainian Federation of America and serves at the Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics. He is dedicated to the education of the youth, particularly through sports event, organized by Tryzub. He is also the trustee of Manor College.

The Ukrainian Federation of America was founded in 1991 and is registered both in the US and Ukraine. The work of the Federation is centered in six areas: advocacy and information, education, humanitarian aid, art and culture, healthcare, and social services. On August 24, 2021 during the celebration of Ukrainian Independence in Philadelphia, the work of the Federation and its president, Dr. Zenia Chernyk, was recognized by the Ukrainian government. Oksana Markarova, Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, presented an award issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
