His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk attends the 64th Holy Dormition Pilgrimage at the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in Sloatsburg, NY
On August 11 & 12, the 64th Holy Dormition Pilgrimage, which has become known as the “American Zavarnitza” hosted almost 8,000 pilgrims. The increase of the Ukrainian faithful this year was due to the presence of the Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav and His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of New York. Sr. Sofija Lebedowicz, SSMI, Superior General of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate greeted His Beatitude and all the hierarchy as well as the sisters and pilgrims. The long lines for the Mysteries of Reconciliation and Eucharist were signs of the hunger of the pilgrims to deepen their faith and receive many graces. The Sisters Servants are grateful to His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Bishop Kurt Burnette, Bishop Andriy Rabiy, Bishop John Bura, Bishop Paul Chomnycky, OSBM, Bishop Bohdan Danylo, Bishop-emeritus Basil Losten and all of the hierarchy and priests who served the pilgrims. The sisters also thank the SSMI Lay Associates, the LUC, the parishioners from various parishes Ukrainian, Byzantine and Roman Rite, along with those from the village of Sloatsburg. Without you, we could never have succeeded in hosting this momentous pilgrimage. The sisters also thank the choirs from St. Mary’s Byzantine Church in Hillsborough, NJ and St. George’s Ukrainian Church in New York and they thank the many benefactors who supported this year’s pilgrimage.
